Stuffed Potatoes

Introduction

A simple classic dish, Stuffed Potatoes consists of baked potatoes dipped in a creamy sauce and fried until golden brown. Offering rich, comforting dishes that go well with a variety of sides, this dish is a must-have for family gatherings and holiday meals. Below I present a simple recipe for making homemade stuffed potatoes that will definitely please your guests.

Ingredients

  • Heavy oil: 1 glass (for extra richness)
  • Salt: 1 spoon
  • Black pepper: 1/2 spoon
  • Hazelnuts: roasted hazelnuts (optional)
  • Cheddar cheese: 1 glass, grated (Gruyère can also be used for a sweeter taste)
  • Onion: 1 medium-sized, finely chopped (optional)

Additional Ingredients and Tools

  • Flour
  • 9×13 baking dish
  • Saucepan
  • Beater
  • Knife and cutter
  • Cheese grater

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Prepare the potatoes and onions: Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces, about 1/8 lengthwise. If using onion, chop it finely.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce

  1. Melt the butter: Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the flour: Sprinkle the flour over the oil and garlic and cook until the roux is smooth, about 2 minutes. This removes the taste of the flour.
  3. Pour in the milk and cream: Slowly add the milk and cream to the mixture, stirring regularly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it thicken slightly for 4-5 minutes.
  4. Seasoning: Add salt, pepper, and hazelnuts (if using). Adjust the seasoning to your taste.

Step 3: Assemble the Dish

  1. Layer the potatoes and onions: Place half the potatoes on a baking sheet and cover lightly. If using onions, sprinkle half of them over the potatoes. Pour half the sauce over the first layer and add half the cheese.
  2. Repeat layers: Repeat with the remaining potatoes, onion (if using), sauce, and cheese.

Step 4: Cooking

  1. Cover and bake: Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 5: Final Preparation

  1. Cool slightly: Let the stuffed potatoes rest for 10 minutes before serving. This will soften the sauce and make it easier to serve.

Results

Stuffed Potatoes are a delicious, rich dish perfect for any season. The potatoes are covered in a creamy cheese sauce, making them flavorful and satisfying. Serve with grilled meat or a fresh salad for a complete meal. Enjoy this simple, traditional dish that your friends will love!
